Musheer broke Sachin’s 29-year-old record in the Ranji trophy final
Promising young talent Musheer Khan broke the 29-year-old record of legendary Sachin Tendulkar in an ongoing Ranji trophy final against Vidarbha at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
Musheer Khan, the younger brother of Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan, scored an impactful century in Mumbai’s second innings of the title clash and thus became the youngest batter from his team to score a hundred in a Ranji final.
Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was 21 years old when he scored a memorable 140 against Punjab in the 1994-95 Ranji Trophy final as Mumbai (then Bombay) declared their first innings at a mammoth 690/6 in 168.4 overs, a contest also held at the Wankhede Stadium.
Tendulkar also scored a century in the second innings of that contest as the final ended in a draw and Bombay were declared winners based on their first innings lead.
Musheer achieved a milestone
Musheer achieved the feat at the age of 19 years and 14 days as he took a couple of runs off Vidarbha pacer Yash Thakur to reach three figures after consuming 255 deliveries. Interestingly, Tendulkar was present at the venue to watch the proceedings of the Day 3 as Mumbai continued to tighten their hold over the contest.
Musheer has had quite a start to the year having earlier represented India at the ICC U-19 World Cup in South Africa where he played a vital role in his team’s unbeaten run to the final. He scored 360 runs in the tournament, the second most after his captain Uday Saharan who finished with 397 runs.
Musheer then scored his maiden First-Class century during the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal clash against Baroda and converted it into a double-ton. He made 203 off 357 as Mumbai were bowled out for 384.

Defending champions Mumbai are eyeing their record-stretching 42nd Ranji Trophy title when they face Gujarat in the summit clash at the Holkar Cricket Stadium here on Tuesday.
Mumbai have won the premier domestic cricket competition 41 out of 45 appearances in the final. The last time they lost in the final was to Haryana in 1990-91.
Mushir joins Mumbai Ranji squad in quarter-finals
Sarfaraz Khan’s brother Musheer Khan was included in Mumbai’s squad for the Ranji quarter-finals this year after returning from the Junior World Cup. In quarter final clash he played an inning of 203 runs, then scored 55 runs in the semi-finals and scored 136 runs in the final. Till now he has scored 529 runs in 6 matches.
Musheer Khan has been in excellent form in 2024 having finished as the second-highest run-getter in the ICC U19 World Cup in South Africa before scoring a maiden double-century in FC cricket for Mumbai.
Musheer scored a double Century
Before this, Musheer scored a double in the quarter-final match at the age of 18 years and 362 days. Had scored a century. He became the second youngest Mumbai batsman to score a double century in Ranji Trophy after Wasim Jaffer (18 years, 262 days, against Saurashtra in 1996-97).
It is too early to make any predictions about Mushir, but sparkling feet have been seen in the cradle. This definitely proves that Mumbai’s cricket level is still very good.
Indian Bench strength is much stronger
In recent years, teams like Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Kerala have also increased their level. These are the cricket standards of BCCI. This is the fruit of the plans. Today India’s cricket bench strength is much stronger than any other country in the world. That means India’s junior cricket players are very talented and strong. In the recently concluded series against England, Dhruv Jurail, Sarfaraz Khan, Devdutt Padikkal, Akash Deep have shown glimpses of their talent. Rajat Patidar may not have been successful but his talent cannot be denied.
