Tension mounts between Iran & Pakistan after a series of strikes. On 16 January 2024, Iran carried out a series of missile and drone strikes within Pakistan’s Balochistan province, claiming that it had targeted the Iranian Baloch militant group Jaish ul-Adl.

In retaliation Pakistan on Thursday used killer drones and rockets to carry out “precision military strikes” against what it called “terrorist hideouts” in Iran’s Siestan-Balochistan province, killing 9 people, a day after Islamabad recalled its ambassador from Tehran in the wake of Iranian missile and drone strikes in Balochistan.

Looking into the war that is continuing between Russia and Ukraine, the rift started between Hamas and Israel and now tension escalated between Iran and Pakistan the whole world is worried, especially the UN. A few days back on Jan 16, Iran bombarded airstrike in the Mountain region of Pakistan, it was a shocking moment for all and  Pakistan.

Iran and Pakistan sharing border between two. and both countries share a volatile border, stretching about 900 kilometers (560 miles), with Pakistan’s Balochistan province on one side and Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province on the other. Both nations have long fought militants in the restive Baloch region along the border.

What Iran said after airstrike

Iran’s foreign minister said the operation targeted the militant group Jaish al-Adl, which he described as an “Iranian terrorist group” in Pakistan. He said that the hideouts of Pakistan terrorist organization which has become a headache for them have been targeted.he said they were approaching Pakistan for last 4 years and spoken about to take action against them but Pakistan did nothing , the action came after lot of patience.

Iran airstrikes Attack on Pakistan

After Iran’s attack, Pakistan had shown a very strong  stance ,The  relations between Pakistan and Iran had been through rough patch  stage now started deteriorating badly , strongly condemning the attack Pakistan had called back its ambassador from Iran and had issued a notice to the Iranian ambassador to leave Pakistan.

Who is Jaish-al-Adl

Jaish-al-Adl is the same terrorist organization which had kidnapped Kulbhushan Jadav from the Iranian port of Chabahar and later sold him to Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, this ISI caught him and took him to Pakistan, Pakistan misused this and made Kulbhushan a spy. They told him and put him in jail

Pakistan’s Retaliation

Pakistan carried out retaliatory airstrikes in Iran early Thursday, Pakistan said they  targeting militant positions, strikes hit training camps belonging to Baluch insurgents in southeastern Iran, near the border with Pakistan. About seven locations were targeted and at least Nine people were killed, according to preliminary information.

The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement describing Thursday’s action as a “series of highly coordinated and specifically targeted precision military strikes against terrorist hideouts in Sistan-o-Baluchistan province of Iran.”

“A number of terrorists were killed during the Intelligence-based operation – codenamed ‘Marg Bar Sarmachar,'” the ministry said. “This action is a manifestation of Pakistan’s unflinching resolve to protect and defend its national security against all threats.”

The reason of tension between Pakistan and Iran

Both Iran and Pakistan face attacks by Baloch separatist militants in restive Balochistan, leading to souring relations and mutual recriminations. The Balochistan Liberation Army and the Jaish ul-Adl are often accused of operating in each other’s territory.
In Pakistan, Iranian state media said Iran destroyed two bases of Baluchi militant Jaish al Adl, a Pakistan-based group that claimed a December attack which killed Iranian security forces. Pakistan launched strikes on separatist militants inside Iran on Thursday in response.

US On Iran & Pakistan Rift

On media reports claiming Pakistan consulted the US before conducting strikes in Iran, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, during a regular press briefing in Washington, said, “I do not have any private conversations to read out.”

Miller said the US is concerned about the escalating tensions in the region and has urged restraint on all sides.
